About Karen
Born in Cleveland, I moved to NYC in my mid 20’s and worked in commercial film production. I traveled quite a bit both nationally and internationally, gaining an appreciation of art and design from around the world. After a long career in film, I began working with the interior design firm Homework in the Hamptons, helping to stage and decorate homes, sourcing textiles and furnishings from NYC, and to support the design needs of our NYC clients. From there I was off to the west coast, and worked with an essential oil company, (you may see some products in my shop soon) before returning to my home town of Cleveland.
I’m a designer and artist at heart, and while in Cleveland learned the art of framing. It wasn’t a stretch to incorporate color, texture, and style into works of art for my customer’s homes. I’ve been happily working with clients to bring the element of art into their home design for over seven years now. And finally decided it was time to open my own shop. Welcome to b studio framing.

1Conservation and Restoration
-
Conservation is important to me, I use only acid free and Ph neutral mats, boards, and adhesives in all of my framing, and highly recommend 99% UV glass. I’ve seen too many pieces damaged from acid burn and faded from light. I also offer full conservation framing for pieces of great value. I’ve had the honor of being trained by life long master framers, using best method practices for each piece. I’ve framed original art, fine prints, movie animation cells, and have re-framed old pictures and memorabilia removing and replacing acidic conditions with conservation materials, stopping any further damage. I work closely with ICA-art conservation and other conservation organizations for restorations, repairs, and referrals.

2Framing & Design
-
One of the best feelings is to nail the design, and often that means going out on a limb, playing with different elements that allow the artwork to really stand out, even if it’s totally unexpected. I encourage my clients to bring in pictures of their home and where their art will hang. It gives me insight in knowing their style, color palate, light and scale of their rooms. I also work on location, so we can design right in my clients home.
